Parcours de résilience : Les femmes immigrantes et le marché de l’emploi en Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine
The report Parcours de résilience : Les femmes immigrantes et le marché de l’emploi en Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine (Journey of Resilience: Immigrant Women and the Labour Market in Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine) sheds light on the experiences of immigrant women navigating the region’s labour market. While immigration is widely recognized as an important strategy for addressing regional labour shortages, the report reveals that many immigrant women encounter significant systemic barriers upon arrival, including limited access to childcare, affordable housing, and transportation.
The study also highlights persistent challenges in securing employment, such as the non-recognition of foreign credentials, requirements for prior Quebec work experience, and discriminatory hiring practices.
Testimonies gathered during the study describe difficult workplace relationships, unequal employment conditions, and, in some cases, situations of harassment or abuse made possible by the precarious nature of employer-specific (closed) work permits.
To help address these challenges, the report offers a series of concrete recommendations for action.
